Admission Policy

eligible students

Any child who who resides within the boundaries of Portland Public Schools is eligible to apply to attend. Non-resident students are also eligible to apply and attend but are admitted after all Portland district resident students applying are placed. Kindergarten students must have their fifth birthday before September 1 of the enrollment school year. Students with Individual Education Plans and/or handicapping conditions will be served in cooperation with Portland Public Schools.

If space is limited, admission is determined by the use of a state required lottery of eligible candidates. Priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students. The admissions process begins January 1st with application packets available, information sessions, teacher open house and published material. Applications are accepted from January 3rd until April 1st. This group of applicants makes up the lottery pool. The lottery takes place during the Board meeting in the month of April. Letters are mailed out to families within two weeks of that meeting. Students are selected randomly by grade level to ensure fairness without regard to ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender, income level, English language proficiency, athletic ability or past academic performance. The governing board performs the lottery and it is part of the school record.

Waiting Lists

A waiting list is established at each grade level for those not admitted during the lottery. Position on the waiting list is determined during the lottery process for applications received before the application deadline. Applications received after the deadline are added to waitlists in the order we receive them.  Applicants are notified of their position on the waiting list and spaces are filled in numerical order from the list.

Trillium will admit students on a space available basis through the last day of the school year.  After this day, all students are dropped from the wait-lists. Students must re-apply prior to April 1st to seek admittance for the following school year.

Non-Discrimination Policy

No student, employee, or applicant for employment at Trillium Charter School shall, on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any employment or educational program or activity.

*Applications are received and processed through the start of school on a space available basis. Trillium may allow for mid year admissions in certain cases.
