Twelve Days of Trillium

In the spirit of the holiday season, Trillium is sharing ideas for “12 Days of Giving.” Each school day, from Monday, November 27th to Tuesday, December 12th, there is a suggested action for Trillium community members to take, to send a strong message of support to our staff, students, and teachers. First and foremost, we are asking for your financial support, but please do not be deterred by lack of funds. There are many ways to #GiveTrillium, including volunteering, making an in-kind donation of an item on your teacher’s wish list, and asking your friends and family to make a gift on your child’s behalf. Whether you give or not, please celebrate with us on the last school day before break, Friday, December 15th, at the Trillium Holiday Bazaar!

What will the funds be used for?

Some of our fundraising priorities for this year include: 1) An expanded English Language Learning program for our incoming immigrant families; 2) A safe, functional, and beautiful schoolyard 3) Chrome books for all staff and students. Learn more about the impact that Chrome books have had at Trillium on Laura’s Donors Choose page. Learn more about the Trillium Schoolyard Project here.

Why are you asking for money? I thought Trillium was a public school.

The current funding crisis for education has been widely reported, and schools across the country are experiencing severe difficulties as a result. Trillium is no exception. What’s more, since Trillium is a charter school, our grade school receives twenty percent less funding than traditional public schools, and our high school receives five percent less.

Day 1: Cyber Monday The latest addition to the Fred Meyer Rewards Program is Community Rewards, where customers can earn donations for their favorite nonprofits by shopping with their Rewards Card, in person or online. Log in to your online account and link your Rewards Card to Trillium. At the end of each quarter, we will receive a donation based on the accumulated spending of the customers linked to Trillium. Pro-tip: FM Photoshare is currently offering 30% of Ship to Home Cards and Gifts. If there isn’t a Fred Meyer near you, and you just have to shop Amazon, shop AmazonSmile. To shop at AmazonSmile, simply go to, where you will be automatically prompted to select a charitable organization to receive 0.5% of eligible purchases.

Day 2: Giving Tuesday Why shop to give, when you can #GiveTrillium direct? Cut out the middle man – needless purchases – by visiting Direct giving is the most efficient method for you, and for Trillium staff and volunteers, who dedicate hours of time to smaller fundraisers that see 50%+ of their profits go to outside vendors. This way, 100% of your donated dollars stay at Trillium to benefit your child. And every dollar counts. We are hoping for 100% participation, to send a strong message of support to our staff, students and teachers. When you give, please Share Your Story with Giving Tuesday, and  email it to Kay, email hidden; JavaScript is required who is collecting donor profiles for the Trillium website.

Day 3: Match Your Gift Many employers match donations made by  their employees to a wide range of nonprofits, to support employee charitable giving, and to extend corporate philanthropy. Matching donations, or matching gifts, are FREE money that nonprofits – Trillium Charter School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization – often miss out on, due to limited information about donors’ employers, and the programs usually being unknown to employees. Several local employers have matching gift programs, including: Kaiser Permanente, Moda Health, Nike, Adidas, Intel & Boeing. Search to discover if your employer has a program here. If not, read “How to Ask Your Employer to Give Back,” and ask!

Day 4: Shop With SCRIP Trillium’s SCRIP program, managed by Together for Trillium PTSA, is a shop to give method that does not require you to spend money on things you don’t need. Buy a giftcard from the TFT at face value, to one of the major retailers you visit often, such as Fred Meyer or New Seasons, and they make a 5% profit. On Thursday, November 30th, visit our SCRIP reps afterschool, to make a purchase, or ask about becoming a rep yourself. Pro tip: Sell to friends and family who plan to purchase gift cards this holiday season! In case you miss them, visit, where you can create an account and purchase online.

Day 5: Go Greens! Together for Trillium PTSA has partnered with local business Teufel Holly Farms, to bring fresh, handmade evergreen products directly to our door.  Choose from a Noble Fir and Red Cedar swag, with Ponderosa pinecones and raffia bow ($18) and a Noble Fir and Incense Cedar wreath, with Juniper berries and velveteen bow ($25). Place your order by Friday, December 1st, for pick up on Tuesday, December 12th. Drop your order form (linked here) and payment – check only – in the SCRIP box.
